BEND, Ore. — Those who knew retired Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Deputy Lester Hyder will remember the person as a “positive influence to everybody” and a decorated Vietnam veteran who kept his law enforcement uniform as pristine as the Marine dress blues.

“Once a Marine, always a Marine,” commented retired deputy Linda Reno, who was Hyder’s patrol beat partner for thirteen years.

Hyder disappeared on Tue Dec 13 2016 when he and his brother, Roy, were traveling northbound on Hwy 97 south of Bend, Ore., in separate pickup trucks, remarked his brother-in-law Mike Ross. He was moving some of this belongings to Central Oreg. from 48 during a white-out snowstorm.
